Chris and I travelled to London, England in June for a week to shoot footage of the 35mm film footage being transferred to video by Prime Focus.  Amazing to see the nitrate footage being handled by the BFI preservation lab team.  These are the people who are working on restoring the first 9 Hitchcock silent films… and also working on the HBC footage that is on its way to the archives here in Winnipeg.

I’m excited to blog about receiving the “Manitoba Day Award” from the Association of Manitoba Archives for excellence in use of archival materials for my film program “In the Shadow of the Company: Films on the Hudson’s Bay”, which screened at the Wpg Cinematheque in Feb, 2010.  Thanks to Maureen Dolyniuk of the Hudson’s Bay Company Archives for the nomination.

Just back from a fantastic trip to Toronto doing interviews/research for upcoming projects.  Great interviews with John Warkentin for Shelterbelts, Kieren Moore for Shenqui, and Christopher van Donkelaar for 100 Mile ArtDetails to follow.

Time to get cracking on the editing… finishing up Guy Maddin’s Haunted House and a music video for the Moses Mayes / The Lytics show.

This weekend was busy busy.  Alan Zweig was in town to introduce the program I curated “Shooting Myself in the Mirror: The Obsessive Cinema of Alan Zweig”.  An inspiring weekend of films and a master class.  I’ll be posting an interview I did with Alan on www.playingintraffic.ca

Come on out to the Winnipeg Cinematheque for a screening of the “Selkirk & McGregor” doc episode of Intersections. Feb 5,  2PM.  Panel discussion to follow the screening.

Chris and I are off to Northern Alberta next week to continue our research on the HBC’s filming of the 1920 film “Romance of the Far Fur Country”.  Looking forward to meeting again with Peter Geller in Edmonton, and then on to Fort McMurray and Fort Chipewyan to meet with the museums/historical societies to discuss collaboration.

Thanks to a grant from the Manitoba Arts Council, Chris and I were in London last week watching archival films from the British Film Institute’s collection.  The focus was on film footage of the Hudson’s Bay Company from 1920. Look for this as the subject of an up coming doc titled “The Return of the Far Fur Country”.
